What made you decide to boycott Wal-Mart?
I'm not sure what did it for me. I think it was a combination of all horrible the things I was reading about Wal-Mart and finding this group. They coincided perfectly. Now I'm the organizer for the Detroit group (and temporary organizer for several others), and we have had a ton of great meetups and protests. Keep your eyes peeled for anti-Wal*Mart articles. -Peggy |

Dear Peggy and readers,
This is a great question! I joined because I love my family and care about my sons future. I believe there is real greed in our country. The jobs are leaving America. Citizens are being exploited. I am amazed if I touch something that is made in America. I worry about Slavemart being the only store left in our future. They will be able to charge high prices once they drive the competition out and control the market. We are destined to be slaves. If not in my lifetime it will be in my sons or future grandkids. They probably will tax the roads leading to Slavemart. Big brother is set up in our cars for taxation already. It is like a noose suffocating us. I am sorry it is a bleak picture. I thank you, Peggy for all your determination, resources, information, support and friendship. This is a worthy cause that I will fight to the end. Next will be the self serve lanes, no cashiers and the cashless society. from, a Wal-Mart Enemy ![]() |

You mentioned USA made items, www.unionjeancompany.com has all usa-made union made clothing.
www.nosweatapparel.com has all union made (although some of it in other countries) clothing (and shoes!). www.howtobuyamerican.com has a lot of great links as well as a book on why people should buy american and which products are safe to get. they also have a weekly newsletter that highlights a company or product. |

It started when I used to work there in 1995. I had a very sick premature son in the hospital and was told that I either come into work or be fired. I had just started the job, so I quit to be with my son in the hospital. Just today, I went to wal-mart to use a Loreal gift certificate for $10. It took three Csm's to argue over what to do with the gift certificate because my purchase did not total $10. I told them that there was no items in their store from Loreal for $10 and buying one more thing would be going over the $10. I also had one item I was paying cash for. I was also accused of trying to get money back and, when I explained that I just wanted the items and not the money, they tried to say I was trying to buy a $2.00 item with the certificate as well when I have a $10.00 cash bill in my hand. I waved the bill in their face and asked them to come up with another insult for me in front of other people. I got a Store Manager who let me redeeme the certificate and I will NEVER go there again.

Wal-Mart is a conglomerate that seeks emminate domain, gives below the fair market value to homeowners, and moves in causing mom-and-pop shops to go out of business. It's similar to planting a seed: the roots of Wal-mart goes down and the leaves grow and trap people into low wage jobs.

Please, give me your insight on this matter. I detest WalMart with a passion. I think their business practices are unethical. However, I am not able to do a 100% full boycott. Why, you ask? Well, in my town they've driven so many other retailers out of business that I simply have no choice sometimes. 95% of the time I will drive past WalMart and do my grocery shopping another 6 miles away. Yes, their prices are higher but in the end I think I save money. WalMart preys on impulse buying. Rarely do I talk to people who go to WalMart and leave the store only with items they went there intending to buy. Before today, the last time I was in my neighborhood WalMart was 3 weeks ago. Do any of you go to WalMart because you have no other choice? I always say I must be missing something that others find so wonderful about the place. I always say I'm going to keep an open mind and have patience. But I always leave WalMart pissed off. Tell the truth. Do you go there sometimes?

I never go to Wal-Mart, but then again I live in an area where there are many options. In my group, we don't begrudge the occasional shopping there when they're the only place within driving distance that carries what you need, or when you honestly can't afford to shop anywhere else. All we ask is that you shift as much of your shopping as you can manage over to other (preferably locally owned) stores.
Have you considered shopping online? A lot of times you can find better deals and not support Wal-Mart at the same time! (As long as it's something you can go without for a few days. Needing tylenol for your kid with a 102 fever at 4am is probably something you'd need to head to Wal-Mart for, but we'd forgive you. Really.) -Peggy Kittila www.reformwalmart.org |

I Love Wal-Mart
I can understand fighting for what you believe in, but come on guys what kind of person protests Wal-mart. How can you be so shallow minded. Why dont you anti wally-worlders focus on a real problems? Oh by the way if your concerned about jobs; wal-mart has more employees than the government, and is still growing. If anything i think they help america. Poor people can afford shoes, clothes, food, and other living needs without taking there hard earned money. Oh yeah, if wal-mart was really that bad dont you think america would already be on your side, instead of you trying to protest and force it upon them? I think you are the biggest insult to american people since the KKK. Thanks for your time, Eric (Wal-mart Associate) ![]() |
